Robotic Sanding & Grinding

Better Finishes. Safer Operators. Repeatable Results.

Why Chose Nysus Solutions?

Robotic finishing is one of the most demanding robotic applications. It requires a precise understanding of media wear, contact force, robot path planning, and tool changing. The Nysus engineering team has spent years building these systems and brings that experience to every project.

We integrate force-control technology, automatic tool changing, and consumable monitoring so your cell continues to produce a quality finish even as abrasives wear.

Key Capabilities & Benefits

Force-Controlled Finishing — Active force compensation maintains consistent contact pressure even as the abrasive wears or the part geometry varies.

Multi-Stage Processing — A single cell can perform rough grinding, finish sanding, and polishing in sequence using automatic tool changers.

Compound Curves & Complex Geometry — Off-line programming with CAD-based path generation handles freeform surfaces that manual operators struggle with.

Dust Collection & Containment — Integrated dust capture and ventilation keeps the cell clean and meets combustible dust requirements.

Automatic Media Changeover — Robot-actuated belt changers and disc changers extend unattended runtime and reduce operator intervention.

Process Monitoring — Force feedback, spindle current, and cycle time data flow directly into MES for SPC and predictive maintenance.

Common Industries & Use Cases

Foundry & Castings

Gate and riser removal, parting line cleanup, and surface conditioning of castings.

Aerospace Components

Blade polishing, weld blending, and precision deburring of structural parts.

Furniture & Wood Products

Sanding of profiles, edges, and contoured surfaces prior to finish coating.

Medical & Orthopedic Implants

Polishing of titanium and cobalt-chrome components to mirror finish requirements.

What's Included in a Nysus Robotic Cell

FANUC Robot with Force Sensor — Typically an M-20 or M-710 series with FANUC Force Sensor or PushCorp compliance device for active force contol.

Process Tool Spindle or Belt Sander — Properly sized and integrated for the abrasive media and material removal rate required.

Tool Changer & Consumable Stand — Allows the robot to swap belts, discs, or full spindles without operator intervention.

Part Fixturing — Custom nests, indexing turntables, or servo-controlled positioners to present parts at the optimal angle.

Enclosure with Dust Extraction — Sound-attenuating enclosure with integrated downdraft or cyclone dust collection.

Vision or Probing for Part Locating — Compensates for part-to-part fixture variation so the finishing path stays accurate.

Off-Line Programming Support — ROBOGUIDE-based simulation and path generation accelerates new part introduction.
